Our Redeemer Lives!

Part One of Two

In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of God’s grace. Ephesians 1:7 (NKJV)

Resurrection Day is my favorite Sunday of the year. I love attending church and celebrating the resurrection of our Lord Jesus. The fragrant Easter lilies remind me that Jesus’s sacrifice for me was acceptable in the sight of God Almighty. As the music swells, I praise God and rejoice with the triumphal songs that Jesus rose victorious over death and sin!

What is your favorite part of Easter?

Our Redeemer lives!

Jesus Christ is our Redeemer. In obedience to God, His Heavenly Father, Jesus willingly died on the cross to rescue us. He suffered and died for all of the world so we can choose to receive His forgiveness of our sins. He rose again on the first Easter, or Resurrection Day, proving His power over the penalty for sin and of death. No other religious leader rose from the dead and has an empty grave.

Do we need a redeemer?

What do you think? Why?

Scripture tells us that God made mankind perfect. When sin entered the world through Adam, it separated us from our Creator.

God promised a future redeemer who would come through the line of King David (Genesis 3:15; 2 Samuel 7:12–13). God’s plan of redemption is shown throughout the Bible.

Abraham was known as a friend of God. It was not Abraham’s actions that justified him in God’s sight, but Abraham’s faith. God made promises to Abram (the name of Abraham before the LORD renamed him), and Abraham believed God would keep His promises.

And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness. Genesis 15:6 (NKJV)

God gave the Law to Moses for His people Israel. The Law did not justify anyone, but showed them their sin. Deeds do not justify anyone in God’s sight (Romans 3:19–20). Sin enslaves us (Romans 6:16). Sin earns us death (Romans 3:23).

The sacrificial system showed that without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin (Hebrews 11:4).

The promised Redeemer came to save us.

In His grace and love for us, God sent His one and only son, Jesus Christ.

But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”

Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:13–14 (NLT)

We are justified through faith in Jesus Christ who makes us at peace with God, our heavenly Father (Romans 5:1–2).

Have you received the salvation offered by Jesus Christ?

If you have not already done so, I pray you will make that decision today. Let me offer you a sample prayer to pray to God.

Dear God, I know that I’m a sinner. I don’t measure up to Your holiness. Please forgive me of my sins. I turn from them. Help me to follow You. I believe that Your Son Jesus Christ died for my sins and that He rose from the grave to save me. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

If you confess Christ and genuinely mean it, you have a new life in Christ. If you are not already in a Bible-based church, I encourage you to find one where you can be discipled and learn more about Jesus and how to live for Him.

Benefits of redemption.

When we in faith follow Jesus, the benefits are more than a guaranteed place in heaven for eternity. We have eternal hope and salvation. We have the Holy Spirit within us to help us to do God’s will. We have the assurance of God’s love and presence with us.

What are other benefits we have if we have a relationship of following Jesus and being forgiven of our sins?

I’ll cover more on the benefits of redemption in the May issue of this series, My Redeemer Lives! I would like to include your insights as well. Please share in the comments.

Let’s praise the Lord together!

Lord, we are grateful that You love us. Thank you for dying on the cross for us. Thank you for the hope we have because You live! Amen.

Thank you for stopping by my webpage. Pease leave a comment. I would love to hear from You. Happy Easter!
