Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out! Romans 11:33 NKJV
Years ago I attended a presentation that pointed out how perfectly the planet was made. The earth is just the right distance from the sun to not be too hot or too cold to sustain life. The fact that it spins so all sides have dark and light allows for night and day. Our moon has a dark and a light side, so we know that not all of the spheres in space rotate the same way. The earth’s tilt provides the seasons. The percentage of oxygen in the air allows us to breathe.
God’s Wisdom in Creation
Imagine how it would affect us if just one of those factors was missing! It is not a coincidence that earth is perfectly balanced. Everything is carefully designed by our Creator. The prophet Jeremiah declared God’s wisdom, giving examples in Jeremiah, chapter ten.
He has made the earth by His power, He has established the world by His wisdom, and has stretched out the heavens at His discretion. Jeremiah 10:12 NKJV
* How do you see God in creation? What did He reveal to you?
God uses creation to show us who He is. His invisible attributes are clearly seen (Romans 1:18–20).Through what we see we can understand God, His eternal power, and even the Godhead. God reveals Himself in nature so that we are without excuse in knowing Him.
God’s Wisdom in Dealing With Mankind
God wants us to know Him. He made us so that we can have a relationship with Him. God loves us. He knows every detail about each of us. He knows our joys and our sorrows, our strengths and our weaknesses. In His wisdom He knows what is best for us. His judgments are unbiased and righteous. He knows all things. Nothing is hidden from God!

God Gives Us Wisdom
Mankind’s thoughts and actions are revealed throughout Scripture. The Proverbs in the Old Testament are full of examples of wisdom and folly.
God wants us to act wisely. Since He is the source of wisdom, it makes sense to ask Him for it. God will give us His wisdom in abundance when we ask for it with unwavering faith (James 1:5–8). He reveals what is wise as we study the Bible.
King Solomon asked God for an understanding heart to judge God’s people, and for discernment between good and evil. This pleased the Lord. God gave Solomon a wise and understanding heart, and also riches and honor. When King Solomon judged between two women who claimed the same child, the wisdom of God was seen in his judgment between them (1 Kings 3). The Lord will help us to make wise decisions, just as He did for King Solomon.
* When have you needed wisdom?
* Were you wise enough in your own understanding?
* Did you ask God to give you discernment? How did He help you?
Too often I make decisions on my own. My eagerness to help has led me to be over-committed. My “yes” comes quicker than a “no” or “I’ll pray about it and get back to you.” My schedule is like a plate so full it is spilling over the sides. God is working on that with me. I’m asking God to help me have a plate with the servings He wants on it instead of my dripping to-do list. I want to have clear margins around my plate of life and not “overeat” with commitments. In God’s wisdom, He tells us to rest. I’m trusting Him to give me the wisdom to learn how to rest in Him.
Let’s go to our God who is wise beyond our comprehension. Let’s seek His wisdom and ask Him for help in being wise every day.
Dear Heavenly Father, I praise you for being the one and only wise God. Nothing is beyond Your understanding. Please help me to rely on Your wisdom and not on my own. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
