Attributes of God: A to Z. Q-Qualified

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. John 1:1–4 ESV

If you want a house built, you need someone who is qualified. Storms would destroy the house with a foundation built on sand, as Jesus said in His parable in Matthew 7:24–27. Imagine the disaster if the electrical work was done by someone without experience and without a working knowledge of electricity! An untrustworthy contractor may take off with the money without the work being completed.

When considering a person for a position, scrutiny should be given as to whether the individual is qualified for the role. Does he have experience? Does she have the knowledge and wisdom for the role? Is the person trustworthy? Finally, what sets the applicant apart? Are the qualifications for the job met?

When we consider who we are to worship, shouldn’t we find someone worthy of worship? Who should be in charge in our lives? Doesn’t it make sense to follow the One who is the most qualified? Let’s consider the Lord’s resume.

GOD ALMIGHTY

Objective

God created the world and mankind with the intention of having humans in a loving relationship with Him. Adam and Eve did things their own way. They listened to the deceptive speech of God’s enemy, Satan, who spoke through the serpent. Adam and Eve doubted God’s goodness and trustworthiness. They broke the relationship they had with God and their sin nature affects all people.

God’s objective is to restore individuals to Himself through the great love He has for them. His love is shown through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, God’s only Son. When we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, God restores us into a relationship with Him. The Holy Spirit helps the believer live according to God’s will. Finally, the believer will be with Jesus for all of eternity.

Experience

Creator

Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory, and honor, and power, for you created all things and by your will they existed and were created. Revelation 4:11 ESV

The One True God. There is no god like Him.

For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods, for all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. 1 Chronicles 16:26 NIV

Righteous Judge

Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns.” The world is firmly established, it cannot be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity….Let all creation rejoice before the LORD, for he comes, he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples in his faithfulness. Psalm 96:10, 13 NIV

Savior

No one else can save us, including ourselves. Jesus is our salvation (Luke 2:10–11).

Education

No one can teach God (Job 21:22). He is the source of wisdom. He is all-knowing. He sees the beginning and the end of our lives, and of all the past, present, and future.

Character

  • God unconditionally loves us (1 Chronicles 16:34)
  • The Lord is holy and righteous
  • He is trustworthy

God is uniquely qualified to be the boss of our lives. 1 Chronicles 16 tells of many of God’s qualifications as God. The response of the people was of praise, singing, declaring His acts and salvation, and of worship.

Lord God, I praise you for being the only one qualified to be my Savior, Creator, and the Boss of my life. I give my life to you. Do with it as you will, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
