Attributes of God: A to Z. N-Never-Failing

As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater, so is my word that goes out from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:10 – 11 (NIV)

In many movies, television shows, and even perhaps in our own lives, someone has made promises and not kept them. I remember one story where the father kept telling his son he would come to the boy’s baseball games. The father was always working, and repeatedly missed the boy’s games. He promised to come to the next one, but he didn’t make it. Soon the boy didn’t trust the father would do anything he promised to do. He knew his father would fail to deliver on his word.

Thankfully, our God is not like that man. God’s word is never-failing, for God never fails. He always keeps His promises. He succeeds in His purposes and accomplishes what He desires. We can count on what Scripture tells us of God.

Contemplate the following verses about God’s word.

For no word from God will ever fail. Luke 1:37 (NIV)

Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Proverbs 30:5 (NIV)

When I meditated on this attribute of the Never-Failing character of God, I realized how connected it is to His other characteristics. The Lord will never fail to be faithful, kind, and merciful. His love will never cease (Lamentations 3:22). He will always be righteous, holy, and just. All of His prophecies and promises will come true.

When God forgives us, we can count on the forgiveness lasting. When we are wracked by the guilt of something that we brought before God, it is not God who brings it to mind, but the devil who is our accuser. The enemy wants to wreck our peace and joy. The Holy Spirit will prompt us to confess our sins, but the Lord will not accuse us for something He has already forgiven. God’s Word assures us of His forgiveness.

As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12 (NKJV)

* Is there an area where you need to remember that God is Never-Failing? Post verses where you will see them regarding that. I’ve given some additional verse references below to get us started. Please add verses in the comment section.

– Strength and courage. (Deuteronomy 31:6)

– Fear. (Hebrews 13:5 – 6)

– Discouragement. (Deuteronomy 31:8)

– Loneliness. (Psalm 145:18)

– Truth. (Psalm 119:160; John 16:13)

The fact that we have an unfailing God provides assurance and confidence in Him. I find great hope and security in knowing that God and His word are reliable.

Some of the attributes of God are ones we are called to have as part of our lives. The ability to never fail is unique to God Himself. What amazes me is that even knowing our failures, Jesus Christ loves us.

* Let’s praise the Lord for His reliability.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for Your continual faithfulness of Your character. Thank you that we can rest assured that You will never fail. You will do and be in accordance to who You are. I praise You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
